MemorandumandSHS glossary
« The humanities and social sciences are a set of disciplines studying man in its social and cultural dimension. These sciences account for 40% of research activity in France. However, they do not develop many technological applications and have long been poor parents of innovation financing. However, considering that innovation and break-up are not just technological, the SHS becomes a reservoir of little explored opportunities to positively and sustainably impact society. »
– Christelle Ventura, CY Transfer
Valorizing the SHS, a whole program!
« Valuing research is a long-standing and well-known process. However, if it is easy to imagine the transfer of a patent to industry, it is a priori more difficult to project the use of research work in philosophy or musicology in the socio-economic world. At a time of ecological, digital, social and social transitions and of taking into account all levels of dimensions so far often set aside in the economic sectors, it becomes imperative to value research in the humanities and social sciences. While the stage of awareness is now reached, the implementation of the SHS valuation remains a real challenge: the acculturation of SHS researchers to the principles of socio-economic valorisation, necessary adaptations of language, modalities and processes to the specificities of the Human and Social Sciences are among the necessary steps to valorize research objects from the SHS. »
– Laetitia Washesse, Humalis
With the memorandum of valorisation of the Human and Social Sciences, CY Transfer and Humalis want to convey valuable elements so that each SHS researcher, each team feels allowed not only to embark on the adventure of valorisation but also and above all listened to, oriented and accompanied as closely as possible to its aspirations. The memorandum is complemented by a lexicon to understand the language of innovation in the mirror of the reality of the exercise of the Human and Social Sciences and the socio-economic valuation of the results of these research.
